From Door to Table

FROM DOOR TO TABLE

'OLD doors' REALLY CAN LEARN NEW TRICKS.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Salvaged building material warehouses are great and cost effective sustainable resource for contextual materials taken from existing homes and other buildings. They can also inspire the creativity to produce very unique and unconventional architecture. The door for this project was purchased from such a place and by simply rethinking the door as a horizontal surface rather than a vertical one, we came up with the idea to transform it into a table. The door was stripped of its original color, cut, primed, and stained to make this one of a kind living room table. During the fabrication process we discovered several marks and dents in the door that came from its previous use. We decided to keep these blemishes and highlight them as character features in the finished product. The project is small, but its representative of a simple sustainable system. By reusing things we prevent wasting unnecessary time, energy, and resources. Thinking of objects in this way, we can begin to live sustainably and look damn good doing it
